‘The Crown’ season 5: Elizabeth Debicki requests critics to stop complaining over storyline
Netflix’s The Crown star Elizabeth Debicki has responded to the brewing criticism over the forthcoming fifth season of the show.
Debicki, who is set to play Princess Diana in season five of royal drama, has said critics need to “move on” from complaining about the show’s depiction of the royals.
Debicki, supported the show’s plotline and said it was an ‘interpretation’ of events and ‘we can maybe stop talking’ about the controversy.
Speaking to Radio Times, the Australian actor, 32, said, “I respect people’s points of view and I, being an actor in the show, understand the nature of what the show is.”
“It was always very clear to me that one can never know what happens behind closed doors and that a writer is interpreting what may have happened,” she added.
She also noted that the streaming channel was recently forced by the row to add a disclaimer to its trailer for season five saying it was a ‘fictional dramatisation… inspired by real events’.
“Now the disclaimer is up there, we can maybe stop talking about it and move on. If that’s helpful for certain people, so be it, and now the conversation can be returned to the creative endeavour of what the show is,” Debicki stated.
She added, “There’s a huge amount of room for interpretation and that’s the value and beauty of The Crown as well, that you receive a different message depending on who you are. That’s good drama to me.”
The Crown season five will chronicle Diana’s dramatic split from the then Prince Charles. The forthcoming season will also feature scenes of the princess wearing the famous “revenge dress.”

The Crown season five is going to be crucial. The series is entering the new modern era! We would like to welcome abroad brilliant actors and actresses who become a part of the iconic project about The British monarchy. The plot is reaching the year 1991 which is a well-known period of the royal family life story. As the events are modern, viewers will be picky, but the most exciting part is what real royal family members are thinking about the new season! Dominic West, for example, the one who plays Prince Charles has admitted that he met the real prince "a couple of times" and the actor's wife has a long-standing friendship with a royal family member. 

In the new season of The Crown, we are all excited about Imelda Staunton playing the Queen and Elizabeth Debicki replacing Emma Corrin whose performance as Princess Diana was beloved by series fans. Both are highly talented actresses who have done a brilliant job in the preparation and on the scenes, however, they had to go through some challenges along the way. Lesly Manville as the new Princess Margaret has done big research and absorbed her character's personality with the help of previous footage. The parade of stars continues - Jonathan Pryce will join the cast as Prince Philip. He had a positive experience working with Netflix on The Two Popes and even got an Oscar nomination! 

For the crew of the project, the most challenging part was a scandal with Jemima Khan - the hired consultant who assisted in writing season five. She was a close friend of Princess Diana. Jemima made a scandalous statement, saying that her and Netflix's co-writing agreement was not honored, so the woman requested all her contributions be removed from the series and she even decline the credit! That's huge, but the consultant didn’t clarify what storyline she was talking about. That made Elizabeth Debiki lost and confused but she definitely managed to portray one of the most iconic women on Earth. We will see how it affected the plot in November, but for now, watch our OSSA’m video to find out more about the star cast!
